For Kyra: Desiderata
Notes on Desiderata:
Desiderata is a Latin word meaning "Things to be desired"
Desiderata was written in the early 1920s by Max Ehrmann, a lawyer and poet from Terre Haute, Indiana, who lived from 1872 to 1945.
Desiderata has historic appeal because it's widely known that it was written in the 17th century, in 1692, while in fact, it was written in the 1920s and copyrighted in 1927. Most likely, the misunderstanding arose when the poem was published in a 1956 church devotional material that has the church's foundation date: "Old Saint Paul's Church, Baltimore A.D. 1692" on its heading.
